Frequently Asked Questions About Our Paid Vocational Internship Program

What is an internship?
An internship is a temporary work experience that allows individuals to experience what it is like to work a given job. While internships are often associated with college or high school students, Flow Right trade internships are open to anyone who wants to get experience in the trades.
Is an internship considered vocational training?
It is at Flow Right. We provide hands-on skills to prepare you for work in your chosen field.
Why does Flow Right offer paid internships?
Flow Right interns are hard workers and they provide a valuable service to our company. We believe that internships should be compensated for their time and that unpaid internships are unfair. They work right alongside our technicians, serving as assistants even as they are trained. They deserve a fair wage for their work.
Will an internship help me have a successful apprenticeship?
While an internship is not required to obtain an apprenticeship, it can help you if you are still struggling to decide if you want to pursue a career in the trades. If you would like to sample trades without committing to the intensive commitment required by an apprenticeship, an internship might just be perfect for you.
Do you offer paid internships for high schoolers or job opportunities for high school graduates?
Yes, all internships are paid, regardless of your age or school status.

Is this internship only open to students?
No, this internship is not only open to students. We accept qualified applicants in all phases of life. If you are looking to shift careers, but you are not sure if you want to pursue a trade, an internship is a short-term way to get paid while you figure out what you want.

Flow Right’s trade internship is designed to provide insight into multiple vocations. While you may not have the goal of becoming an electrician or an excavator, working within these fields, even for a brief time, experience in these fields will make you better at your job. This is especially true in home services, where many trades overlap.
Do I get high school or college credit for interning with Flow Right?
Flow Right cannot determine if you will receive credit at your institution. However, we are more than willing to work with you and report the hours you work and the skills you learn to your school.
Why should I pursue a vocational career?
You should pursue a vocational career if you like solving problems, helping others, working with your hands and working independently. Skilled tradespeople are in high demand and every trade is in desperate need of new professionals with a passion for working hard and getting the job done right.

They will provide you with insight into which trade is best.

What Flow Right Interns Are Saying About Their Experience …

Hands-on Learning

The past 2 days I have been with RNC and I have been learning a lot – like bathroom fixtures can get really expensive. We have been working on homes for the Parade of Homes and they have to be done by this weekend. It’s really hectic but fun. I installed from start to finish: 3 bathroom lavs, one tub and a tankless water heater. I have learned a lot from Tony and I hope to work with him and the RNC team more.

Tool Usage and Safety Protocols

Before I was offered the internship, I had very little to almost no knowledge about tools and what the purpose was for that tool. Within these last four weeks I've learned tool usage and tool safety. I've also learned why safety in the workplace is priority number one. No one wants to go home with any injuries, whether it's self-inflicted or not.

Diverse Career Experiences

I was with Joe from HVAC and we worked on a boiler. I learned that HVAC is more of a thinking division. I'm not really into it at the moment but that could change a year from now.
Aaron M.
Intern

Equipment Repair and Maintenance

Today I replaced the high pressure hydraulic lines on the bobcat with Louie.

Interview Skills and Career Placement Opportunities

On Friday the 24th, our intern meeting was very informative. Every intern meeting prepares me more for my future with the company. I'm prepared for my interview and I want to thank every division for the opportunity I got to work with them. My number one choice is CNC. I feel the way this division is run and operated is where I want to be. From the manager to the men I've worked with, they all are knowledgeable.

Problem-solving Skills

Today I was with ECS. It was an interesting day. I learned how to correctly bed a sewer pipe and how to use shoring. I also learned what happens when a sewer line is marked wrong ... What a mess! All in all it was a good day for learning experiences.

Finding a Future Career You Love

Every day I wake up, I'm excited to be at work. Every day is something new. You hardly ever work the same job for more than two days. The people I work with are all professional when it comes to getting the job done correctly and in a decent amount of time.
